I’m actually pretty optimistic about the way the younger generation use language… Texts, emails, Twitter and Facebook are all written forms of communication… Our vocabularies are pretty good. An educated native speaker of English knows about 40,000 words. Shakespeare only used 20,000. What Shakespeare did, though, was to really use the small vocabulary at his disposal.
